have to make your samples into .pgm manually. Does Akai Z8 works as a
normal sampler, where you can upload a sample and play it along with a midi
keyboard or do you have to make the sample into a program?

styles of play. You have Drum and Keygroup. The samples still have to be in
a program. Drum programs can be a sound on one key of a keyboard. Keygroups
are groups of sounds that are at different pitches on each key in the group.

faceplate, those Akai Z8 I have seen for sale until now was where the
seller somehow had thrown away the faceplate cable, so you had to use it
attached to the device. If I understand you correctly, then are these four
vs. eight knobs only for assign to specially functions and actually no
matter if you are planning to use the software editor as I am?

Qlinks can be assigned to control many parameters. Too many to mention
here. You need to see some of the other videos to get a glimpse. If you use
a separate control (Hardware or software)then you will not need to touch
the Qlinks on the Z machines.
