Multi Sampling synths in Akai S-3200XL / S3000XL / S3000/ S3200 / S2800 Part 1 of 2 A very quick tutorial on sampling a synth into an Akai 3000 series sample…
It might take a while but ok lol I’ll try to do something on those lines and sequence it with the MPC. This will no doubt make you happy but my first adventures into MIDI and synths was using an Atari 1040st runing Cubase back in 97/98 lol Thats what my school music departament had untill they upgraded to pc’s with logic audio..The DX-100 they had (Bass for Orbital’s chime) I nicked it and the rest is history lol
Heres a challenge for you. How about making a little demo tune just on the 3200XL. Nothing else allowed. Only Samples you make and built in FX, filters etc. (Of course you can sample FX/Filter sweeps like you did in the good old days) You up for it? Not bothered if the tune is great or not. Just more into hearing a tune done exclusively on the Akai S3200XL for nostalgic reasons. Go on fella, make this old school hardware nut from back in the day who hates all this software crap happy 🙂
When setting envelopes at multi-sampling it’s a good idea to use Edit mode “All”. Remember to turn it back to “One” in the SMPL screen though, or it will mess up your individual Keygroup settings 🙂
Faster way than shown in video… If you setup the first keygroup and then create the others, you are saved the work of setting up the envs/filters for each keygroup, as they get copied from the first keygroup!
Great tutorials mate!!!ya one in a mill..literally. im in my 20s and i rock the s3000xl and mpc 2000..its a sick combo.. you shud do a tutorial about using the s3000xl or s3200xl to sample and create programs and using the mpc to sequence.. .. .help the kids out all they know is fruity loops these days.
Thanks mate, yeah I wanted an S series sampler since 1999 lol Actually Nightmares On Wax still uses one, I remember back in 02/03 he had a S-3000 in his studio but on his new album he made he used an S3200XL among other things
Yeah man George is still going but he moved out of the UK few years back..but then no surprize really. Yeah when I got into making music people still did it this way so this is what i’m used to. My first synth was that DX-100, a Korg ER1 drum machine, Bass Station keyboard and a bastardised tape machine that I ripped the erase head from so you could endlesly over dub…crude but fun
Excellent vid!! These samplers featured on 90% of most electronic tunes back in the 90’s. Its such a shame that in just ten years yours vids are the only tutorials on the whole of youtube. Nice one mate for keeping the spirit of these classics alive! Please keep up these brilliant vids mate and Ill never unsubscribe!! Your approach is very fresh and thats no easy feat on youtube!
Nightmares on Wax?? Are they still going. Used to have a huge rave tune back in the day called aftermath. Think that was just before the S3000’s days. I used to love home studios. Mixing desks and racks of equipment. DAWs just dont excite me the same way. I feel getting exited about what you do when creating anything from a painting to music (whatever the genre) is a key element to achieving your best. Just noticed, your quite young to be doing all this “the real” way. Good stuff 🙂
Im an old man with music tech these days. Got into it in 1990 and sort of lost touch with it in 1995 ish. Just dont understand the way its all done these days with DAWs etc. Not saying there bad, just a total contrast to what I remember. Yep, I had an Atari, and an amiga with a tracker program too. Between me and a mate we owned at some point or other S1000 S3000 S3200XL along with various analogue synths. Im so pleased your on here are im totally at home with how you do things.

@vinyljunkie07 are you the guy from back to the oldskool ?
Here is a video I made on how to make a drum kit on the Akai S5000, my
first tutorial video. Cheers and long live old school hardware.
Great video M. I’m off sampling my AN200 in Ableton (as you know it’s
monotimbral too) so I can layer it without recording it… Cu ARD
